Whil edriving home from maryland to virginia, my battery light would come on when I hit speeds around 65 to 70 mph. As I would slow down it would flicker then go out. As soon as I let off gas and slow under 60 mph. it would go off. It would only come on at speeds 65 to 70 mph.
what would cause this?
was going to have batt/alt tested but AZ was already closed.
As far as I can tell it was the alternator, went out today and purchased a new (remanufactored) alternator form the dealer. The reason I went to the dealer was because I heard bad things about part store alternators, and also I had a 10% off coupon.
Very easy to take off, took old on with me, I forgot to take off pulley, so I took it over to service department and they were happy to take it off and put it on the new one for me. (very happy) Got home, put it on, and was done.
Only thing is that the two dealers I called told me that the only altenator that was available for my 1997 f-150 4.2L was a 95 amp. They also told me that was what my was out of factory? could anyboy varify this for me.
Autozone shows an optional 130 amp alternator, though that does not mean it was offered by the factory. 95 should be more than enough for most situations.
