Greetings Gear Heads
I have a 78 F150 that is leaking from the outer seal of the forward drive housing. I was told by a local shop that to replace the seals means removing the housing, that it is a major PITA and so they don't even do it anymore. I'm not intimidated by pulling it my self but if I'm going to do that much work I'd rather go back together with disk brakes and a housing that I could service without removing.
So my question is this, is there a drop in replacement for this 4WD unit that gets me to where I want to go?
Many thanks
Ron
Mil1ion is correct, front differential, but I don't know how to tell the Dana 44 from the Dana 60. The manuals that I have all show the same exploded views and assembly instructions but nothing to differentiate between the two. I'll look for the Drive Train Forum, I'm new enough here that I hadn't found that one yet.
Thanks
I am thinking that the rea end is at 318, the door jam sticker reads F14SRBC6318. If I understand the code that would be a C6 auto with 318 rear end, yes?
Thanks for the lead to the drive train forum BTW, There was a link there to a site that has really good information and links to the DANA factory sites. From that information I'm thinking that mine is a DANA 44, it sure looks like it anyway.
It also looks like I'm in for some real hassle to get the oil leak stopped, ANY input is greatly appreciated.
