The stock Air filter system looks extreamly restrictive. Anyone know of a CAI or high flow set up for a 1994 4.0 Ranger?
Additionally, anyone know what I could/should expect from a CAI on this truck?
I got mine from street smart design, its for the 95 and later 4.0. The difference is that the 95 on have a lower upper rad hose location, my tube sits on top of the rad hose but no big deal. If when I need to changes rads I will go with the later model but until then mine is working just fine.
They have pics on their website do a search as urls will not post right here.
i did'nt find a cold air so i made own, using stang banger tricks i learned through the years and a large k&n round tapered filter in stock at autozone for 45$ bucks.e-mail me if you want the details.works well!!
P.S. the air box is 75% of the restriction at least.just fix the part from the airflow sensor out and leave the stock part intact from the sensor to the throttle body.that part works well and would require more work to change than worth in gain.there is also a K&N slightly smaller that has a metal flange that you could drill 4 holes in very carefully and bolt directly to stock flow sensor, but it could get wet and dirty faster but this is how many kits come(naked filter i call these) good for street machines on road, but no cold air, still better than stock box
but by definition a gearhead never reads directions, right.I shall look into the proper rules and manners for this site.I was so excited to talk to fellow types i skipped over stuff.
The Ford stock air intake will flow more air then you need for a stock v6 engine. If you went to do any mods just get a high flow air filter {like a K&N} that replaced your stock one.
go to www.ifab.net, i got just the filter and adapter for my '93 4.0, but they do have and actual intake for our year. the 93 and 94 years have the same intake set up and everything. you could also try www.kkm.com
