Seems that most Fords with a tilt steering wheel get loose after a few years. At least mine are! The wheel itself isn't loose, and the nut is tight but its loose in the tilt mechanism.
How hard is it to get to what needs tightened up? Is this caused by breakage or screws/nuts working loose?
Also, would a steering wheel from a '88 or '89 Mustang with cruse fit an '88 F-150 with cruse? I like the looks of the two spoke Mustang wheel. Thanks! -greg
Hi, don't know about the steering wheel interchange but as far as the loose tilt I had one come loose before and it is annoying you have to take it apart piece at a time and lay them in order so it is easier to reinstall without missing something after you get past the turnsignals you should be able to locate the bolts that hold it tight wiggle the column alittle and you will see where it is moving tighten the bolts and put it back together.

unfortunatly it is usually the tilt pins that hold the whole mess together that get loose or the bushing where the steering shaft comes out of the column gets sloppy. When I bought mine someone had horsed the tilt wheel all to pieces. the upper half of the tilt mechanism was in 3 pieces the fun part was trying to get it all back together with the spring installed. I found it was alot easier to put the pins in first then tilt it all the way up and pry the spring in using a gasket scraper. watch it though. I had the spring slip off once and took out my dome light cover and bulb. The real kicker was that I had put a new dome light cover on about 15 minutes before that lol.
Hi, thanks for the input. I figure I will just take things apart and see what it is. Its not all that loose yet but better to fix it now than later. -greg
If it is just a little loose I wouldn't worry about it either. Mine is still a little bit loose after I fixed it so I said to heck with it and just live with it.
Hi, mine is a little loose maybe a quarter of an inch or so but I figured that was just normal wear due to the fact that it is pretty high and the steering wheel was probably used to pull someones butt in the truck since 1986. LOL
