I have a 10" Rockford Fosgate Punch HE2 sub and a RF Power 200 Amp it pounds like crazy... and its really clear... but... it doesnt get much range... it sounds good up close... but u cant hear it far off... it's an 800 watt max speaker... and i know it's underpowered... i had a local car audio place build an enclosure... and i think it's too small... i think that if i had a better box with more air space and possibly ported... it would sound better... i have a regular cab truck so not that much room... but i have all behind the seat to play with... it already hits hard... but i kinda want more... im plannin on buying another rf punch HE2... and another amp to power em both... but that wont be for a while... i can build my own box if someone can send me some possible dimensions or give me suggestions... im open to all suggestions.... i want it to sound better... but i like it as it is... just kinda want the full effect because i know its capable of more... Thanks a million
Hello, I reccomend doing a search on ported versus sealed boxes on this forum. You will find quite a lot of information detailing the pros and cons of both types. If it's super boominess you want so people can hear you coming down the street then you will need to get a more powerful amp. Or in the meantime, I would highly recommend going to a ported box if that sub is also rated for use in a ported box.
Ported will be louder, but you might loose some of that clarity..you might not.
My first subs were 2 12" in a ported box. They were some cheap-o brand and only had 125Watts running to each sub. I could be heard before my headlights were seen. Car alarms went off easily.
I then, upgraded to a sealed box...lost all the loudness, but gained a much tighter bass and clearer...IMO.
ok... using a calculator... i figured out that my box was built too small for my sub... it requires .75 cubic feet of volume... and only has about .58... how much sound/quality does this affect... will it change if i have a new and bigger box built... thats sealed... if i want a ported box... it'll need 1 cubic foot of volume and i dont think i can fit a box big enough in the truck...
on the side... how thick should the wood be?? which size will work best??
You want to build a sealed box since you have a regular cab truck. Sealed is a smaller box and it is easier to build. The downfall sealed taked more power to make sound good. When you figure out the volume of the box dont forget to subtract the volume the wood has. You want to use 3/4 inch MDF board.
