Has anyone else had this happen? Under moderate acceleration(like freeway on ramp), the engine will fall to idle, the glowplug light will be on , and the water in fuel light will come on. After only a few seconds its back to normal. and may not do the same thing for several days. Do I have water in the fuel? I have done the drainage thing on the frame rail. and could not tell a difference, because it is so unpredictable. Had the truck in for service and asked them to check for a computer fault or code, they said they got nothing. (An '04 SD F-250 7K miles.)
Any suggestions? Are there fuel additives that will "dry" the fuel? What would anyone suggest? Thanks!
Dave White
there are additives for diesel, just need to make sure they don't decrease the lubricity of the fuel as they work. stanadyne and powerservice are two named around here. sure doesn't sound like water with the glow plug light coming on though.
Definitely a wire chafing issue. The only thing that's going to cause all of your warning indicators to cycle like that is what we call a PCM reset. This simply means one of the three VPWR circuits has momentarily shorted to ground shutting off the PCM just like you turned the key off. If left alone this will eventually cause performance issues, stalling or a no start condition. I have fixed many though I see more problems with the Injector harness now. The problem you are having relates to the main engine sensor harness, the Visconic fan clutch or the wiring to the accelerator pedal.
Ford_Doctor...Welcome to FTE... nice to have a Master Ford Diesel Tech on board...We look forward to your future input here.
You have probably already seen that while some are frustrated and dismayed here, there are plenty of very thrilled 6.0 owners here. Have patience if you see some bashing going on. Some of these guys have some very real unresolved issues...some are even having issues with "buy back" replacemant trucks.
Trust me fellas, there's far more negativity on some of the other web sites than this one. (yes, there are other forums out there) I am searching for a friendlier atmosphere. There is a difference between bashing and another person's point of view which if expressed with respect and thought, serves to spark debate. Debate is a good thing. No?...and thank you for the welcome!

Agreed, for sure its a good thing. Part of the issue is that its easy to read emotion into printed words and the biggest influence is the READERS mood, I personally think that there probably isn't as much 'bashing' going on as some might think. I think some if it is up to interpretation and the real intent was simply trying to get accurate info, perhaps they have been told something completely different which can be frustrating. Others feel like they have handed someone $40 - $50K, been kicked in the jimmies and left on the side of the road... in which case they may need to vent a little.
Anyway as you said, a good debate is a great thing, its a great source of information, and you may come away with more informed opinion.... I have.
Hope you find a 'home' here, look forward to what you have to share.
Thanks Ford_doctor in New Jersy. from the left coast, I will pass on your obviously informed thoughts to my dealer. Appreciate the advice.
