Hey there, My name is Jay and Im a new member here. First off I just wanted to say hey and let you all know a little about myself. I have been driving and working on Ford's for about 20 years now, and I just purchased a 1960 F-100 that I am planning to do some restoration work on.
What I am primarily interested in doing is making this truck into a more pleasent daily driver, and would like to get some opinions as to what you all think my best options are. As of right now the truck is pretty much stock with a 292 Y block and a "3 on the tree" manual transmission. I know for sure that I would like to install power steering and front disc brakes. This beast drives like. . .well . . .an old truck, and I would appreciate any info you might have on what is available and what works best.
Other than that, I'll be doing quite a bit of body and paint work on her, and just trying to get her presentable. I was wondering if anyone has any good contacts for replacement parts (mostly *****, levers, and other interior baubles). The last item I had a question about was the tailgate. The truck has one, but its in real rough shape and I am wondering if I should try to fix it or just go with a replacement?
Thanks in advance and I hope to put up some pictures and other info as I move ahead.
Welcome. If you haven't tried the "site search" area you might want to look through items related to the 1960's models. It will probably give you some information to ponder. I'm sure some people will be along who have similar models and will give you more specific input. Have a good time.
Welcome to the site, from one '60 owner to another. Stick around and ask alot of questions. Don't forget to check the thread at the top of the forum, "attention 57-60 owners" and post your vin, -4speed

Sounds good, will do.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Welcome to the forum Jay. Since you already have a driving truck, best advice I can offer is keep it that way. Address the smaller issues while you are figuring out what you really want.
Jay, welcome to FTE. I know you will enjoy this site. BTW where in Ca are you located. I change my oil in Rowland Heights.
So far I am already learning a lot about these older trucks (I have had a '74 F-350 since my dad gave it to me 12 years ago). The forums are quite extensive.
I am located in San Bernardino, so not to far away from you Edsf100. Only about 45 miles.
Thanks again for the hearty welcome, you'll be hearing a lot more from me as this project moves on
Welcome! This site and these people kick #@$! I'm a complete rookie when it comes to working on trucks, but with the help of FTE, my '60 is coming along nicely. You mentioned disc brakes; check out the "Brake Tech" article...very simple; very clear; great article! Use the "search this thread" feature for anything you may want to learn about; it's there!
