i changed the 0il last night on my 96 psd with 210313 miles on it and i checked the oil last night just before and to my suprise it was full, just wondering sould i have burned a little?,
also i met a guy that same day with exactly the same setup as me banks turbo edge evolution 4" exhaust the only thing different was he had a manual transmition i have an automatic, with his evolution in race he pours out black smoke, mine doesnt puff at all in extreme, he said his didnt at first, a mechanic said his turbo was under scorched they fixed it now it smokes, could mine not be smokin do to the automatic transmition?
Yea it's a lot harder to get an auto tranny truck to blow smoke 'cause it is a lot harder to lug the motor like you can with a manual. Check into the TC lock mod - you will be able to lug the motor and blow black at the flip of a switch!! Also watch your gauges 'cause blowing black is too much fuel / not enough air - so rolling black usually = high EGT's.
As far as the truck using oil - turbo diesels usually do use some oil between changes - but I have seen more than one post in oil threads from guys that use no oil between changes. My truck uses about a quart between 5000 mile changes...
My 97 has 240K, and it uses no oil. I change it at 5,000 mile intervals. I use Rotella 15-40 and truck is in stock condition. I generally take it easy on my truck and don't drive it very hard most of the time, maybe that has something to do with it. I think this is the first vehicle I have ever owned that did not use at least a little oil between changes.
I really dont know if mine uses oil. It does have a leaking gally plug on the back of the drivers head and with that leaking all the time I will go though a gallon in 5K.
hey cowboy 49, your definetly gonna want to put a muffler on there with a stack if you don't want the turbo whistle...myself and Cat_man both have dual 5'' stacks...and i'm sure he'll agree with me, they scream...
