need also knowledge that the tech-2 or a good scanner can give.not just emission codes but full system codes give,i.e alarm, map sensor can do this,it has control of fuel and spark curves!via the pcm as gm calls it.I used the tech -2 on a ford with generic adaptor was a disappiontment.on a gm i can command every solenoid and relay in the system to cycle with it.very good to catch faults fast.i'm sure ford has the like they were always ahead in electron plumbing in my opinion
GM uses a system(s) to check for hotwiring, anyway ford is not stupid.the computer must think the rite key is in ignition or NO party(running) they have used resistors in keys, chips that talk to the pcm,you name it.maybe a good ford tech can make this work.on GM's when I replaced a pcm due to collision damage, the rig would NOT start unless the replacement computer was coded by a tech-2 with vin info and fast codes surely ford has similar???
also,I an blue blood to the core.ford gave up on body shops years ago.I took advantage of the local cadillac dealers body shop to get paid GM training.I am a GM master collision tech and have std.tech status for mechanics.not easy.have gone on to greener pastures(the insurance co controls my income) i hate them with all my dna codes but that is another story. see i can't even spell caddiliac but they are important and worthy competition that improves the breeds for us all.
franklin my scanner reads pass when i hit read codes it reads pass for everything i think the used pcm i put in is not working . thorman when i turn the key on i get volts to the injector no volts when cranking. i was a auto body tech for twenty years i inhaled a lot of bondo dust too. i'll check some sensors or get new pcm i,ll do something.
I did put in a rebuilt pcm. and when i crank over the engine the theft lite keeps flashing and i think its suppose to stop. do i have to tow it to a delarship?? Or can i bypass the anti-theft system?? thanks guys.

thats stuff the engineers will take to grave for obvious reasons. do you know a ford tech? did you try the key/remote thing? the proper scanner may cost more than pushing/pulling to ford? sorry.
i once fixed an 88 gt 5.0 that had a poor run, stall.i have never had to dealership a ford in my stable, but getting harder all the time.i got a code with paperclip and cheap meter, CALLED ford in hawaii(they were still open) asked a tech what code xyz meant it was map sensor.got new in morning from ford -vroom rite away!
on the recent training i got paid by gm goodwrench,on gm prouducts,ALL the dashlites come on at key on to say we work(bulbs) and flash we're ok(system codes) for example abs on line, good is 6 flashes? THEN no flashes when starts.what does ford do now with obd-2?
yes,we were all going off on tangents there.should have started new thread like what price we are willing to pay for economy,or is this ford chat room or what?but reading what i typed to what i meant,it does seem i was high.
