I'm sure someone has run those pistons before, but I have my doubts about if anyone on this board has.

That's a lot of compression. I hope it's a race motor, because you will be running race gas. Do not pass go, do not collect $200 (unless it's at the winners circle!)

Valve to piston clearance will probably be a problem, like you said. I'd call one of the major cam manufacturers and discuss it with them.

As to head porting, you port 'em like you'd port any other head. For what your intended use appears to be (racing) you should probably have 'em professionally ported, unless you're good at porting. If you were, you probably wouldn't have asked!

I've heard good things about Keith Craft for porting heads. Click the link.

Well I am no expert at porting, but what I guess I meant to say is, any info on short turn radius in intake and any port filling to increase velocity? Yes it is a race motor but I will not be sending heads to be "Professionally Ported" because if I wanted to spend that much on the heads I would opt out for the eddy heads and have them cnc ported.

Thanks for the input

The short turn radius in the intake is a very critical area, easy to screw it up. Smoothing it up is probably your best bet.

Basically, I'd just smooth things out, make it so the bumps and turns are more gradual, and clean everything up. Clean up the valve bowls, grind off the EGR bump if there is one (doubtful on 406 heads) and polish the exhaust port out to the end. Avoid enlarging the exhaust port opening. If your intake manifold has larger port dimensions than the heads, enlarge the head port opening to match the intake manifold. Then blend it in with the rest of the port. The more time you spend on it, the better it'll work. I dont have any more specific recommendations.

You might call up a few professionals and see if they have any recommendations. They should be more than helpful.
