engine runs cool
runs too cool, 89 ranger 2.9 engine temp never gets above 140, that seems too cold. What is correct temp? I have a feeling thermostsat is stuck open or has been removed. I Have only had the truck for 4 months.

Are you sure the truck runs too cool?
Run it for a bit, take a feel at the hoses. If they are rather warm to the touch, the truck is warming up. You will want to test the sender for the temp gauge as well.
My truck went through this when I got my AC clutch coil fixed. I had the factory t-stat (seemed good still), but the sender was factory and they had been recalled, IIRC. Gauge regsitersquite well now.
