I recently bought a second 56 cab and now also picked up 2 doors, tail gate, inside fenders, and two grilles. I'm starting to consider putting together a second truck which would be a lot more of a hotrod/non daily driver type. What I need to know is if the frame of the 56 is any different then the 53-55 or are they all the same? I do plan to put in a clip of some sort for a front suspension.
Are there other complete frames that will fit well under a 56 cab or is the original the best place to start?

Hi Merc, I am using a 55 frame for my 56 F-100. The basic frame is the same.
The running board mounts & the rear shock mount are a bit different, but the parts would interchange. The cab & bed mounts are the same. the running board
mount maybe different because on 53-55 the fuel tank is also mounted to the
running board mount on the left side, in fact if I remember correctly only the left mount is different. Ozzie
I believe that 56s use a longer rear spring main leaf which means that the rear spring hangers are spaced differently than 53-55s. Can someone back me up on this?
Thanks for the info. Since I plan to modify the suspension and fuel tank it sounds like I should be able to use a frame from any of the 53 thru 56 trucks. Did they change the frames significantly on the following years starting in 57?
Hey, why not step up to a rolling chassis with everything you want on it? Put your drive train in, throw the body on and you've got a brand new hot rod truck!
I look at the pictures in the mags of those darn things all done, shiny and new...I'd like to see one getting delivered in my driveway, too! But then, where would all the fun go???
