Looking for brake line.....

I replaced my rear brakes including the wheel cylinders. When removing the brake line I stripped the nut on the hose. I now need a new line the problem is that it has two different size nuts on each end. It is the rear drivers side One side is a 1/4 and the other is 3/16. Went to the auto parts store and they have only line with the same size on each end. I even went to the dealer and they said they didn’t have it. So Then I tried to make one out of a 3/16 and a 1/4 in line I tried to flare the hose but it leaks. I guess I am not a good at flaring line. So does any one have any ideas on where I can get this brake line?

Thanks

Doug

Sorry, I forgot to put the truck info. It is a 92 F150 supercab 302.

I'm not sure why they used a 1/4" end on a 3/16 line. I replaced all of my rusted out lines and found the same problem. I used a 3/16 to 1/4 adapter to solve the problem and works great.

Found the same infuriating problem about a month ago. The adapter on the brake line is the way to go. Don't know why Ford did that...their engineers must have been drunk at the time. Maybe has something to do with keeping brake fitting or vent on the proper (long) side? Aggravating, though, just like the standard sized nuts threaded bolts with metric heads I've found during the past year.

One other option is to look in the yellow pages under hydraulic fittings and parts. Any hydraulic fitting shop can make this line up for you, probably while you wait provided there is not a lot of steel tube to be shaped. Just in case you do not want to use the adapters. You will need to take the old line with you if you go.

Good luck and happy Holidays

Dave
