I have a 95 bronco 4X4 with 302 and an auto ( thought of this at work so I am not sure what trans it is ) this thing runs like a top with 235K on it, I just keeps getting stronger somehow , but the auto trans is getting a but jumpy and shifting real hard, no slipping or funny noises, it almost feels like it has a shift kit in it but it does not. I don't know much about auto's, this is the only one I have had, any thoughts on what may cause this ? Is this maybe an adjustment issue ? It has the correct amount of fluid and its a good color . Any thoughts ?
its the E4od. get a haynes manual. it could be your MLPsolenoid or tranny just may need serviceing. get the codes pulled it may tell you more. any parts store should do it for free or go to fordfuelinjection.com for how to do it yourself.
I just had mine rebuilt and a shift kit installed. If you change the filter and the transmission fluid, my mechanic said to make sure to flush it, not just change the fluid. I have read several threads about changing the fluid and there are some pro' and cons from some people who know more than I do. I am going to have it serviced regularly now as I bought it broke. I just don't know about the claims that the dirt keeps them running, though. Well, I got a new (rebuilt) tranny so I need to take care of it.
if a tranny has never been serviced then changing the fluid can be bad. but if the service has been kept regularly there should be no problem. figure service every 6mnths to a year
Mine was doing the same thing so I replaced the Manual Lever Position Sensor aka Neutral Safety Switch. That fixed it right up. Don't make the mistake I did, buy the neutral safety switch from an auto parts store. I paid almost 3 times as much by getting it from the dealer.
Have you changed the screen?Sometimes when my older cars or trucks would start the same thing and I changed the screen and that was it but,its the mettle shavings that glog it up check the magnet in the bottom of the pan its the hairy thing at the bottom that looks like a cat spit a hairball in your trans,.
Crap,it been so long since I've had an auto trans does yours have modulator valve?
those would go out on me and have the same symptom.Just guessing and trying to help.
I am stuck working a couple of hundered miles from home but some day , so they say only 12 more , Ill get to go home and then maybe I can try all of these tips on the beast .
