Easy TFI Upgrade

I think I found the next best thing to replacing the stock Ford distributor. It's made by Holley and is a direct replacement to the stock TFI Module that's been known to fail. Except this one's made to withstand the temps that the OEM's isn't, as well as other ignition and power improvements.

Summit's http://www.summitracing.com part number HLY-891-105 and the cost is $59.95. Not bad in my opinion. I think I need to buy it, just to see how my 300-6 likes it. Besides, my MSD 6AL and Blaster TFI Coil should like it as well.

Has anyone seen or used this yet? Click the picture or link below to check it out.

I am thinking about buying one myself. Plus the MSD-6AL ignition box. My advice, I already have the MSD TFI coil, and since mine is a V-8 the Ford Motorsport 9mm plug wires. Get some of those! It doesn't matter that they are for a v-8! Trust me, I pulled many a terminal off of plug wires, even supposed lifetime warranty wires! If you are going to put more fire to it, then you will need the bigger wires. Plus they just look really cool!

If you go with an msd box, get their wiring harness that plugs everything into the stock connectors. That way you don't have to do any hunting and splicing!

Summit carries those too! You just have to get the msd part number and they already have them in stock. They just don't show them in the catalog.

Let us all know how it goes if you get it installed in your truck. We'd be interested in the gains, performance and mileage wise.

Easy TFI Upgrade

I'll get one as soon as I get back to work. I'm healing from a quad accident. My 400EX ATV sure knows how to rupture a spleen!! (and break a wrist)....

Anyways, on my 90 F-150 300-6 5sp 4x4, I'm already running the MSD 6AL (love the rev limiter) and the MSD Blaster TFI Coil, connected with the MSD Ford TFI Harness of course, and Accell 8.8MM plug wires. Those and the .048 gap on my SplitFire plugs gave me quite a bit more RPM's to grab power from. A slight increase (1-2mpg) in gas milage, and a little smoother running. I'm very happy with the system, not to mention the results.

I plan on switching to the MSD Heli-Core wires or the 9MM Ford Motorsport wires when I get that Holley TFI Module. And since that module is red too, it should compliment the MSD in my engine compartment. Hopefully I'll be able to go faster than 60 up that grade!!

I'll post back with results, even if someone else does first.

LAST EDITED ON 31-Dec-00 AT 06:50 PM (EST)[p]If you like the red color of the Holley module. Then you would be ecstatic over my Motrsport wires! Their red too!

Of course they do kind of clash with the goodyear blue hoses though, but ahh, who cares right? After all it is my truck isn't it.

I, for one, would love to know how it all turned out. And what kind of improvements came out of the upgrades that were made.
