Anyone else have the urge to shout suggestions at the teams on this TV show? I use to (use to? heck I still do) love to wander around junk yards. I get a kick out the TLC channel show "Junkyard Wars" for the same reasons. When it was filmed in England it seemed more authentic. Now that it has moved to California, it seems more contrived. (Gee, imagine finding a propeller in the trunk of this car - just exactly the size and pitch I need). My favorite team is the Bodgers(?) a bunch of grungy, old bikers who can whip together some of the most outlandish contraptions, usually incorporating some portion of a motorcycle.
Junk Yard Wars kicks butt!
I watch it religiously. I have built a few contraptions my self. The first was a 3 wheeler made from a briggs and stratton motor, 2 trashed dirt bikes, a Murray riding mower, and parts from a trampoline. My second was a large gocart frame that I put lawnmower tires on, and I got the motor from a 2 cyl Honda street bike.

I watched that show the night they made the water pumps. I told my wife that they should use two engines before they actually did it. She was fairly impressed. I would have done it differently but the idea still won the show.
Im also a religious watcher of that show. One of my most favorite episodes was when they had to make the hovercrafts. Its cool to watch them make something out of nothing but old junk parts. It would be cool to be a part of the team!
MattD, you remind me of a similar 3 wheeler a buddy and I built as kids, out of old bicycles, plywood and water pipe. Ours had a B&S engine too, on direct drive. We drew straws to see who would risk life and limb to test drive it, as it had no brakes. We shouldn't have worried - with only a 1.5hp engine it wouldn't even budge. One would drive while the other "assisted" the engine by pushing the contraption up and down the street. It moved and made noise - we were happy.
Do you think that there are piles of expensive metal tubing, channel iron, running engines all laying around a junkyard without a speck of rust? I like the British version, but I think the US version is set up.
