Hello everyone......while my truck is sitting in the work parking lot and I'm trying to diagnose its electrical/fuel issue I want to put in a new striker bolt for the drivers side door so it doesn't sound like its going to fall off the truck when I hit bumps in the road. I picked one up from NAPA and I tried to remove the old one. Only issue is that when I started to unscrew the old one, there was a block of metal INSIDE the door jam that the bolt was screwing into that looks like its going to fall into the body if I unscrew the old bolt all the way. What is this metal block? How do I replace the striker bolt if this block its screwing into is going to fall into the body? Any help would be great! Thank you! BTW...the truck is a '76 F-250.
same thing happened to mine. there is a plastic piece that goes over the striker bolt your is probably gone that's why it rattles. i fixed mine by tightly wraping the sticker bolt several timee with black elec tape. you just build it up the the depth of that plastic peice. you can tell by lookin at the wear on the head of the bolt. worked great and didn't cost me a thing.
So bear if what I'm understanding is correct, I can back out the bolt all the way and the "block" or nut on the other side will remain there so I can install a new striker bolt to replace the old one? I'm just running that past you before I take it as the truth. Just want to make sure I'm reading your reply correctly. Thanks for the help! And If I have to Tron...that method will work just fine as well.
