got a '95 F-150 4 wheel drive. Tryin to decide between a 4" or 6" lift. Does the 6" require longer driveshafts? Other wise the kits are priced pretty close so this might sort of be the deciding factor. Would 32" BFG A/T's look to small on the 4"? Always open to opinons or ideas. Thanks for any input.
a few years back i owned a 93 F150 supercab long bed 4x4 351W/E4OD/D44/Ford8.8" and when I installed my 6" skyjacker lift system i had no problems with driveshafts. then again it was my DD and I wasn't trying out Moab or crawling up Helldorado either!
i would go with the 6", like you said they are very close in price. and after you get the 4" you will probably want to move up to the 6 anyway so itll save you some time 32" probably will look fine with the 4" but id recommend the 6" with some 35" tires
Wouldn't your supercab/ longbed have had a 2 piece rear drivesahft with carrier? this is a reg cab longbox, 300 6cyl;Manual Tranny (assumed M50D?); and BW Tcase. Interesting to know though. This truck is a DD as well and prob won't see much flex. just an occasional off-roader.
HMMMMMMM.......... I wonder how the stock gears and 300 woulld make out with 35's. that would be a sweet lookin setup. i'm gonna be travelin about 600km's every weekend for about 8 weeks though. could wait till after i guess... Would 35's make O/D out of the question? prob eh. appreciate the input, keep the personal experiences comin.
The forward section of the 2 piece driveshaft just makes up for the length of the cab extension so you're still looking at the same angles/distance as Fishy. Do the lift you want and then figure out if you need to extend the shaft or not. There's no set rule to this and it seems to vary from truck to truck. How you do the lift can influence this too. I've got 16" on mine and haven't touched my rear driveline. The front only needed an extended slip yoke, no mods to the shaft itself.

little story...i started with 4, then went to 6, then 9, then solid axle swap with 11, ya...go as big as you can right away cause it'll come back to bite ya if ya don't. drive shaft won't need to be lenghthend if its a one piece on a six inch lift, and yeah...32's are gunna look dumb on a 4 inch lift.
I hear ya, Ryan!!!
Here's the progression of the monstertruck (approximate lift sizes):
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18.
It never had more than 3 months on any lift until I got to 18"..it's been that way for 11 months and I'm tired of it. It's getting roughly 2" more this Spring. START OUT BIGGER!!!! It'll save you money/headaches further down the road.
As someone on here hs said, estimate your budget, then add 15% on top of that to cover the little junk.
But if you do need a new shaft, just find one off a stock truck with a longer cab/boc configuration and you will be good to go, as this is what i did on my 81 when i swapped the 205 t-case in place of the broken 208, the shaft was shorten 4 " and new yokes were put in saved us about 300 bucks.

no strangely enough my 93 didn't have a 2 piece shaft. unless you are going for lots of flex i wouldn't worry about your driveshaft.... it'll be fine! also your spider gears will let go (I know from experience) before the stock driveshaft does so i wouldn't even touch it!
Not to get sidetracked, but i found out all about "little stuff" when i did an engine swap on my '94 2 wheel drive. someday i'll have my 12" -18" lift play truck, but as for now this is still a DD so i think i'll opt for something like the 6" skyjacker with radius arms. any opions on that particular kit? skyjacker in general? experience is sometimes the best advice. i know after cody's story i won't be rushing out to buy a set of weld wheels! glad everything went as "good" as it did for ya man. coulda been a semi in that other lane.
