I've got an 85 F250 4x4 (460) that I have owned for about the last 10 years. Was initially used to haul my camper and boat. About the last 3 years it has been primarily used to run loads to the dump (thus 85 'dump' truck). I run it about once a month to head to the dump so I'm always firing it up with starter fluid (provided the battery doesn't die on me). I usually need to scrape the moss off and knock a few hornet nests off to use it. I was always thinking I would trade it in for a newer ford, buy a newer camper and then buy a newer boat (still no lottery winnings yet though). Now I'm thinking, why don't I just rebuild my 85, polish it up, etc. and then I would have the bucks for a boat maybe, sooooo, here I am. I have just begun the research on rebuilding/replacing my 460 and cleaning up the old 'dump' truck. I have a background in mechanics in the aviation world and have rebuilt many small aircraft engines (glorified volkswagen 'aircooled' engines) but have never tackled and automotive replacement. Done several gasket changes, component changes etc. but never tackled the big one.
I'm looking forward to finding some good info and do's and dont's on the forums.
Any one that has swapped out/rebuilt an 85' 460, feel free to chime in to get me pointed in the right direction.
