How Much Better?

I need some input on how much better the Carter YF performs on the 300 than the old Autolite 1100 carburetor. When I got my 65 it had a lot of problems due to the 1100 most of which I worked out. The carburetor seems to run generally rich. I could never get that good gray color at my exaust pipe end with that carb. Its going to be black. I have heard that many of them had economy problems along with other problems. Pony Carbs claim the 1100 is the best thing Ford ever invented. They even Emailed me and told me the 1100 would be a much wiser choice than a Carter YF.

To make a long story short as soon as I was nearly fed up with the Autolite and bought a Carter the Autolite started performing pretty decent except for being kind of cranky on startup after warmup. The Carter is sitting on the shelf and the Warranty is running out. If I would not really have noticable gain in economy and or performance there would be no reason to spend the money on the new carb. I can still take it back. The Carter looks like a better design but I don't like the fact that you have to change from the oil bath filter and you have to rig the choke cable and bracket. Actually the choke thing is the biggest thing. The later trucks must have used some other kind of cable and bracket. I know the bracket is different. It would have to be, but I just dont get it when I look at the tiny hole the cable end has to hook to. There has already been some good info on this site about ways of rigging this but nobody has ever explained and showed pictures of how it would have been hooked up from the factory on a say 1969 truck with manual choke.

Anybody got any input or advice here?
