plan on going to the drag stripe, but I am afraid to race as I am scared that I will ruin my engine or tranny or somthing. Am I worring about something for nothing. Its a 1997 f150 xl 4.2L auto. everything has regular maintance, and up to date. oh ya it had 68,900 miles on the clock.

Well, as long as it's in good shape and it's not really leaking any oil/coolant then you should be fine. Tires ok? If so, that's always a plus...I wouldn't worry about it and just have fun.

 

if you haven't had the gaskets replaced i wouldnt really run it too hard. Stressing the engine like that (on a 97/early98) could bring the hyrdolock on sooner than expected. just my $0.02, i have a 2000, what do i know?

 

thx so far, not leaking oil, or coolent, the intake and the front end gasket has been changed.

 

oh if you've already proactively resolved that issue, then get out there and light it up!!!!

 

front end gasket replaced on recall, and intake gasket replaced due to coolent leak.
