gas tank
i gotta put a new sending unit/fuel pump in my gas tank, its 87 bronco with a 33 gallon gas tank i believe, its got the shield and at least one strap from what i can see, how hard is it to drop the tank, either from a lift up high or the ground, depending on where i am able to do it, also anything to look out for in particular - matt

You can do it from on the ground if you have a few items. Use a transmission jack ( you can rent them) and attach a 2 x 8 to it as long as the tank. Drop the skid plate and then run the jack up to the tank. Using either very long tie wraps (like those for duct work) or a ratchet strap, attach the tank to the 2 x 8. You can them loosen the straps and lower the tank. Use care and don't pull anything out (wiring) and you can replace the pump/sending unit fairly easily. Make sure to relieve the pressure in the fuel lines and use a brass drift on the lock ring. DON'T SMOKE!! Yeah, I know you won't but it has to be said. Be careful and it shouldn't take more than 3-4 hours if that long. If the tank is empty, it's much lighter, but has mor of the volatile fumes to ignite. Either way, be careful and you can get it done.

Siphon the tank out as much as possible then take it out the extra wieght of the gas vs the fumes is a moot point if you explode are you going to be able to tell the difference from under the truck if it was a small explosion or a big one youll still be cleaning out your shorts!! the other sugestion is use PB Breakloose for a few days before you pull the tank the bolts will come out with no problem
