I just put a Holley 600 atop an "S" code 4 barrel manifold. The linkage of the carb hung down to the point of needing cut or a carb spacer. Because of past experiences, I went the spacer route. I also used the stock cable linkage for the throttle (on a 65 F100) but the choke cable came up short, I haven't addressed that yet...

I had the same exact problem with mine. The linkage hit one of the intake runners, so I got a plastic spacer and it fixed it. I am running a 64 Intake with a 1985 600cfm Holley 4bbl. I just got creative with my linkage and modified it too work, doseant look nice, but it works. Also, my 66 choke cable was also too short, a trip to autozone and a $5 choke cable fixed that. Before I got the cable I had to get out and work the choke manually under the hood, that was a pain, get it started, then run out and try to adjust the choke before it died.

Forgot to mention that I also raised the factory cable linkage on the back of the manifold with a piece of 1x1 stock under it to get the proper angle to the carb...
The spacer is an interesting point, I am swapping out all my intake and a spacer was not suggested. By the amount of guys here posting about it, it sounds like a 1" plastic spacer is pretty much a must! Thanks
That's about right Muddbugg. Of course you could always go with 1/2" wood laminate product or even go with the 2" plastic spacer. That is what makes these FE's so darn fun...choices...and more choices.
Maybe you could make your own out of wood? That would be a fun shop project, now if it would work I dont know but its an idea. BTW I live in Utah, land of the tumbleweed.
Yeah make several of them all out of different wood! Hickory, mesquite, cherry, apple....then just lay some thin meat on the air filter for your very own version of FE jerky!!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to shop around for a carb and I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Then manifold numbers are C3AE84258 and then there is a 3F14 number. There is also a "3" by where the carb mounts. Anyone know where this came from, and what engine it was used on. You guys are great, thanks.
Hey Bear ,My comment was just poking fun just like the couple threads before it. You really need to chill out and enjoy the spring Man! If we can't escape daily life for a little online fun what are we supposed to do?
All BS done, wood will compress and pull your carb flanges, plastic, well for testing purposes only, aluminum draws heat, phenolic is hard, stable and a great insulator from engine heat. JMO's.
