hey there!
hope someone can help here,87 ranger,2.3lt,5spd.
after truck warms up the fuel pump cuts out, it won't start warmed up.
let it sit n cool and it starts again.
trouble code gives me a ECT-engin coolent temp, can this affect the
fuel pump?
new pump-new filter
I can hear the pump when turning key on-off before starting cold
but it cuts out after warming up then when turning key on-off
all you here is the relay clickin.
thanks in advance Mark
Which pump did you replace, the low pressure in the tank or the high pressure on the frame rail?
Thanks for the welcome Ken00
I replaced the high pressure pump, unless I missread, the Haines book said for the year truck I have it has only one pump, boy do I feel stupid.
are they both on the same circut?
I will check it out first thing in the morning, along w/inertia switch.
relays will be last.
i had the exact same problem with my 86.....its probably the eec relay, which is mounted right next to the fuel pump relay...you can also check the inertia switch, which is under the dash, to see if it might be getting tripped from heat or something...if it was that all you would have to do was to jit the reset button...good luck!
Had same problem with my 87 ranger 2.9 and repalced both fuel pumps, act sensor, new plugs, new wires, and I still had the same stalling problems. It wound up being the ignition module on the base of the distributor, spevial tool to remove the TVI ignition module. Hope any of this helps.
i see this all the time so i followed ken00's advice and learned how to pull codes
once i got the hang of that i bought myself a code scanner. to make the job easier
before dumping money into the truck buying sensors and changing things you might think cuase the problem PULL SOME CODES easy don't know how go to the bronco2 forum page and the first posts in red letters can't miss it plenty of information.
I did pull the codes from my truck, but none of them indicated the necessity to replace the ignition module, so sometimes unnecessary expenses CAN be avoided by reading the posts in the forum.
i have had great luck with 2 rangers over the years. a couple of things i have learned, i had a module fail and the truck started and then died after a second. number 2 to watch is the coolent sensor. low coolent can cause it to read as a bad sensor and its not. on my truck that caused hard warm starting. just something to watch
100 thank-Uz for all the imput.
sorting out info is the real challenge.
I sure do'nt want to replace part after part after part.
$35.00 american for the EEC relay, that ain't cheap even in ocean co. nj.
it was only $13.00 at Auto Zone, but didn't work at all, had to go to mothersnest {Ford}.
As I had first stated, the only trouble code was the "engine coolant temp".
and this, after warming up of the engine, was the reason for hard/not starting!!
also the "low preasure pump" in tank, my bad, could also be suspect, but not likely.??!!
When cold the 2.3 purrs like a kitten, after warm - up is when the start problem occurs.
perhaps changing topic header might be in order, I do notice a small positive response since installing the new eec relay!
the saga continues............thanks again to all........Mark
Do you hear the low pressure pump in the tank run when you turn the key to on when it's a no start?
You can check the ECT with an ohm meter, should be 37.3k ohms at 68'F and 2.07k ohms at 212'F. I can email you the pinpoint tests for the ECT code if you need them.
