I drive a 2001 F-150 with a 4.6. The truck has about 77,000 miles on it. Recently I have been checking my gas mileage, and I am averaging just abut 14mpg. I was wondering if this is about what others get with the same truck. My driving is about 70city/30highway. And I dont put the pedal to the floor either. All I have added is a K&N filter.
I just want to know if this gas mileage seems right, and if it doesn't any tips on what could be causing it.
That sounds about right for our trucks. I have the V8, (4.6L) and I get just a hair under that. Thats what we get for wanting our trucks. It sucks though especially with the price of gas now up to $2.19 a gallon here in Colorado.
Sounds very normal to me. I had the 4.2 in my old truck, and I now have the 5.4. There really is not even a significant MPG difference between those two. Some of the V6 guys will brag about their milage, but I've never seen it. All of these trucks like gas, period.
Yeah, I'm outside of Chicago, and as of yesterday the cheapest gas I could find was at a Shell Station for $2.34. Gas around here is averaging about $2.40 right now.
yeah, thats about right. my 4.2 V6 gets about that. alot of guys brag that we get great milage but its realy about the same. gas around here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is $2.15.
I average about 14-15mpg (K&N Filter and Throttlebody spacer). If I am going on a trip I can get up to 18 (got that for a couple tanks on Sunday) but that is only when driving longer trips.
Just out of curiosity, what size of tires are you running. I run 285's on mine. I was told that if I drop down to the original size I would gain a couple MPG, but then again that would just look dumb with the small tires on my truck.
That sounds about right for this truck. I've also got an 01 xcab with the 4.6. I usually drive 70to80 on interstates. I also carry a 28 foot fiberglass ladder and a 6 foot fiberglass ladder on a yakima rack. I changed out the air intake with a K&N cold air intake and that made a difference. The funny thing is it seems when I drive faster I seem to get better gas mileage. I average roughly 14.5 mpg.
I have a 1997 F-150 XLT S/C 4X4. with a 4.6L, 3.55 Rear Diff., and 265 75R 17 Tires. With strick hiway travel in O.D. and Cruise on at 60 MPH I get 18 MPH. I don't have any major Mods. just some extras (Dual Exhaust, Westin KC Sportsman Brushguard, Craftsman Tool box, Westin Stepbars, American Racing Rims, Bed liner, Euro lights all the way around, K&N Air Cleaner, Hood deflector, Window Visors, Custom Graphic Detailing, White Facia Indiglo Dash display...). Plus all the options available for the truck.
I have a '99 F150 4.6 with 3.55 gears and I get 15mpg in city 17-19mpg on highway. I have a k&n filter, hypertech power programmer, true duel exhaust, fiberglass bed cover, and 245/75R16 tires. I also have a custom front bumper that may help on drag force. Thats about all that would affect gas mileage that I have or have changed.
