Hey guys, as you can see i have a 1999 ford f150 flareside located in the gallery section for miami florida , and my mirrors dont work currently and they are electric, what should i do? i want to release door panels so i can see if they are connected but dont know how to and dont want to break them since is a new truck, i dont see any screws infront though.
I checked fuse boxes and they are all ok , no burned fuse. what should i do and how do i take out the door pannel.
If both mirrors went out at the same time, I would suspect the switch. You can pull out the power window/locks/mirror module on the arm rest and check for dirty/loose connection. If you still need to pull the door panel, here is the info from the FAQ section at the top of this forum:
(the main thing is to pull the panel UP not out)
Q: How do I remove my door panels?
A: It depends on the panel style, but most you just pop off the upper trim pieces on either side, and pop out the retainers. If you have power windows pull off the switch plate and disconnect the power leads and set the switches and plate aside. Pull the escutcheon plate around the inner latch handle which just snaps into place. There will be one screw under that latch handle escutcheon plate. Remove that screw. Not all door panels have two upper trim pieces so if yours only has one then remove it and that retainer under it. If you have all the retainers out then simply grasp the bottom of the panel and give it a tug upward. The door panel has a bunch of hooks on the back side and you are simply unhooking them from the panel. The panel should then lift off and you just disconnect the courtesy lamp from the socket if equipped. Reverse order for installation. Some older model panels didnt have the escutcheon plate around the inner latch handle and just have a small trim piece you remove, and then you remove the handle itself with an 8 mm socket tool. Also some have an additional screw just inside the area where you pulled off the switch plate. If you missed a screw you will know as that panel will not budge. Some models may also have a screw hidden behind the lens on the courtesy light. If the lens is removable you will be able to tell by the indention in it made for a small screw driver to pop it out. Well as far as manual windows on a F150 I'm not sure, but I can tell you that on a Toyota pickup to get the manual window rollers off; You take a rag and hold both ends of the rag and slide the rag under the hand crank, slide it inbetween the crank and the door panel and it should push a retainer clip out of it's position. From there you take the clip out completely and pull straight out on the crank(it should slide off of a shaft). Now I'm not completely sure on the F150's, I have a book at home that I'll check but I'm at school right now; but I hope that can help you in some way.
The cover on the crank splits apart. It doesn't come off, just pry it apart with a flat screwdriver and them rotate it out of the way. There is a torx screw in there.
