Wiring issue

I just got a 96 Explorer "Eddie Bauer". I tried to plug an aftermarket plug to flat four into the installed harness pigtail and the world came apart. The turn signals stopped working, the console computer was blank and both the airbag and ABS lights came on constant. Now I didn't hook up the trailer I just plugged in the flat four. When I removed the plug everything came back to normal.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this and can give me a direction?
