can someone please tell me some info on these heads, (C8OE) i know they are 68 302 heads, but i want the CCs on the chambers and if they can bolt up to a 78 302 with the same accessories. the chambers arent the normal looking, pinched around the spark plug, type. the heads do say 302 with a 68 under it. im looking to raise compression over my 78 heads by hopefully 1.5-2 points. any info at all will help.
You will definitely raise your compression with the earlier heads. Your '78 heads should have about 68cc chambers. I don't find the C80E heads listed on my chart, but this isn't a very complete book. The one I need is at work, I'll look it up today and get back to you. C80Z heads come in at 53cc's while C8AZ and C8 DZ both list 63 cc chamber volumes. -TD
Okay, found the book I was looking for. It has a cylinder head spec. chart that shows the C8OE heads as having either 53cc or 63cc chambers, depending on whether they were used with a 2V or 4V carb. Look at the top of the heads, as if they were on the car and you were looking over the fender from the side of the car, valve covers off. The 302 should be on the lower left side, and there should be a 2V or 4V on the lower right. The 4V heads had the pinched chambers like the 289 heads, while the 2V heads had a more open chamber. If this doesn't give you enough info, I can scan the pics and post 'em for you. -TD
i guess they are the 2v heads and i dont know if they are worth getting if they are only around 5 ccs smaller then my 78 heads. i believe the 78 heads are 69ccs? that might give about 1 point on comp. ratio. the 2v heads are 63cc right?
If you already have them, you might consider using them. You could have about .030 milled off of them to raise it up a bit more. But if these are something you're looking at to buy, you could probably do better. On the other hand, you probably don't want to raise it so much that you have to go to premium gas. -TD
