1971 Bronco 302 V8 Specs
Hi all,
I am doing research for a computer game we are making here in the UK and wanted to know if any of you had the specification for a 1971 Bronco 302 V8? I am especially interested in the dimensions, weight, wheel size, tyre size, 0-60, top speed, redline, gear ratios etc.
Whilst I am here I am also looking for the above info on the following cars:
1940 Ford Pickup 1/2 Ton
1970 Ford Ranchero GT 429
2004 Ford F-150 Lightning
2005 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II
2005 Ford F-150 FX4
If you don't know what might be helpful is directions to a website that might.
Many thanks for your time and I llok forward to your replies (if I get any).
Best regards
Alan

Wheelbase- 92"
Length- 152.1"
Width- 68.8"
Track Width- 57.4"
Height- 70.7"
Wieght depends on whether it is a half cab model full top model and how it is equipped. Between 3400- 3800 lbs
Tire size options- G78- 15, L78-15, 7.00-15. Roughly between a 215/75-15 and a 235/75-15. OEM wheel size is 15x5.5.
These specs are for a Bronco equipped with a 302 v-8
HP- 205@4600 rpm
TRQ- 300@ 2600 rpm
Couldn't locate any engine redline numbers, but I would say they are good to at least 5500 rpm.
0-60 mph- 14.5 seconds
I've found 90 mph listed for top speed in high gear. I've personally seen at least 100 mph in a stock one.
Differential gearing- standard 3.50, optional 4.11 with V-8 engine
Trans gearing 1st- 2.99
2nd- 1.75
3rd- 1.00
If you need any more info, let me know. Are you planning on releasing this game in North America?

Hi Jason,
Many thanks for the info which is a great help. The actual model we are using has a full top so I assume it will weight 3800lbs rather than 3400lbs. I think we will also go for the listed top speed of 90mph. Do you have the source of that info to hand?
I have two more questions and they are, does the 1971 Bronco have drum or disc brakes? I have found figures of 11x2 (front) and 10x2.5 (rear) but no mention whether they are drums or discs. And finally what ground clearancedoes the vehicle have?
The game is to be released in North America hopefully at latest by the end of the year. We have already released a game over there called SRS and we are due to release another game soon calle Ford Mustang of which you can find details here:

Again many thanks for your help.

Probably a more realistic curb weight for a full hardtop '71 model is about 3600 lbs with the options available that year.
I have several different vintage magazine road test articles and some factory information that I am going by. With 3.50 gearing and G78-15 tires, they showed maximum speed at 3700 rpm as 90 mph. But, if you figure engine redline at 5000 rpm, the Bronco could easily reach 100 mph which would be at about 4100 rpm. At 5000 rpm, top speed would be approx 120 mph. But, the testing done 30 years ago was very primitive, and testing the top speed on a 4wd was redundant. Plus, the tire quality was not as it is today which would make 90 mph a good stopping point for testing back then.
The 71 Bronco has 4 wheel drum brakes with 11"x2" front and 10"x 2.5" (or optional rear 11"x1.75" with the big bearing rear end which is pretty common with the V8 option). Front disc brakes were not introduced until '76.
The ground clearance at the lowest point (rear differential) is approx 8.5" with standard tires.

There are only minor differences between all of the years 66-77, you can expand your search to cover those as well. That should help you to find some original examples. Here are a couple that I could find:
77 Bronco Sport
70 Bronco half cab
72 Bronco Sport
76 Bronco Sport
77 Bronco Sport- rear side view
66 Bronco roadster

Yes, those are the factory hubcaps. The 66 Roadster had unique hubcaps shown in that picture.
The most noticeable changes for the exterior would be side marker lamps or reflectors and the addition of gas filler doors on the 77 model which replaced the exposed filler necks of previous years.

There are converters on the interweb....
Ford called a 302 a 5.0, but it is really a 4.9.
1 liter = 61.024 cubic inches.
1 cubic inch = 16.387 cubic centimeters.
