I know there are all kinds of articles in here about converting the power assist steering to power steering, but I currently am thinking of using the kit that the guy on ebay sells. I am wondering if anyone out there has used the kit and what they think of it? Is it worth the relatively high price?
i have his kit on two of my trucks. i love it, it works perfectly, and bolts up perfectly as well. it takes about two hours to install. i have tried doing it the other way, on my own with a box, and it is just a pain. the money is worth the time and the headache to me.

Reason: masked profanity
holy smoke thats high priced where can i get detailson converting it myself?
I bought a kit similar to this from scott ibeling and paid a little over $900.
My kit didnt include a new steering shaft, thats an extra $240! My kit also came with the older ford P/S pump, the Saginaw is much better. If I had known about this kit earlier, I would have gotten it instead of Scott's.
If you were to get all these new/rebuilt parts yourself, you'd probably pay just as much or more. Not to mention its a big headache trying to find these parts because they dont come off just one truck.
I used a circa-1979 steering box on my '74 highboy - had to box out the frame, find a drag-link out of auto-parts-store pieces, steering shaft from another truck, you get the idea. Re-used the old power-steering pump.
Lots of work, but I think I payed only about $200 for all the parts, 17 years ago. Box leaked like a sieve though, it needed seals.
If you have the time, and have a few junkyards nearby, you can take the time and do it yourself, but if you have the money to buy the kit, it's the way to go, IMHO.
If you guys dont want your old Power Assist stuff I'll buy it from you. I need the STUD that goes from the cylinder thru the center link, and id like to have the pwer cylinder and control valves for spares.. Send me Private msg if ya wanna sell or have any laying around! I happen to like my power assist and wanna keep it..
I happen to like my power assist and wanna keep it..
You are probably the ONLY other person I have seen say they like the power assist steering.....I love it, and I actually PREFER it over Fords regular P/S, which is too 'loose' and 'easy' for me. Bring on the Garrison valves and power rams!!!
Thats right! We are only 1 step away from monster truck steering..
I killed my power cylinder stud beatin it out of the center link, now i cant find a new one. thinkin about using a rod end (threaded heim joint) or welding some brackets to the axle.. eh I mean the center link.. shouldnt be to hard. That combined with the new Cylinder, and new bushings should really righten up the steering
