Light engine vibes?
OK, I have very light vibrations coming thru the shifter whenever the engine is on, and I just want to see if it is an idicator of a problem? The vibrations are really very light not much, but I also noticed the shifter moves alot if the clutch is "popped" and the shifter moves worse in reverse. Is this a symptom of bad mounts? Eric

That depends on how much it is moving. Alot of movement is generally bad or worn mounts. But a little movement is to be expected.
As for the vibration, you should get a little vibration through the stick. It is mounted to the tranny which is bolted to the engine.

Eric, I have has this happen on my 86' f-150. I wound up replacing motor and trans mounts although the trans mount was the one that was beat up. I had an F-150 4x4 3speed OD. 300 engine. I noticed the shifter would lay over when going hard on the gas pedal. I was very tough on a truck in my younger years. I snapped the shifter off of the trans shifting from 1st to 2nd one time. Check the mounts out. It sounds like they may be ready to be replaced.

If your tranny is moving that far and only in reverse, I would say that you have a bad engine mount. The tranny is bolted solid to the engine so both have to move together, if the engine mounts were good the tranny should not rock enough to make the stick move that far.
