well guys..hate to bother you with the tech questions but i have a problem with my 82 f-150... i can't decide whether my oilpump is at fault or i've got a bad pushrod... my engine makes a noise like the whole insides of it is about to fall apart.. its full of oil..got plenty of water.. and everything.. but it makes an odd tapping noise.. its pumping the oil.. so i don't know why i mentioned that.. i just want an opinion... what do u think? i can't figure this one out and everyone around here has a different opinion about it.. well hit me back
Desperado, What type of motor do you have? V-8? It could be a lifter or a connecting rod. What type of oil pressure do you have? Maybe you have sludge on the top side of the motor and the oil is not circulating properly. Just a thought.
well its a v-8 351... shoulda said earlier.... i'm thinking it could be a pushrod.. the bottom end should still be in perfect order the motor has only like 55000 miles on it and its been kept in tune all of its life.. any ideas? maybe the pushrods??
Desperado, It could be pushrods. Have you been keeping up with the oil? Are you the first owner of this vehicle? It could be a top end prob. Any chance of sludge build up?
If it runs ok with a light ticking noise I wouldn't worry
about it. Every Ford I have ever owned ticked a little and
it never hurt anything. Put a little Rislone in it and it might
go away if it is a lifter sticking.
well.. yeah thats true.. a lifter.. well i got it up and running again today... it seems to be running better but the sound almost goes away as the truck goes into drive, and cannot be heard in overdrive.. what do u guys think??
