Hey, I'm still investigating my baddd gas mileage on my 86 f250 302efi 4speed, and I figured I would give pulling codes a shot. Well, managed to find the connectors, hooked it up with the jumper, turned the ignition to ON, but nothing flashed... wich led me to realize, I dont know where the check engine light is! If i had to guess, its the last light on the right? and if it is, would that be a bulb or something?

Thanks
there isn't one. you have to hook one (a light) up to the DLC under the hood. Both haynes and chiltons explains the procedure.
Oh I see, I need to hook up a test light/ volt meter to the bottom of the plug, one in from the left, and from there to the postitive of the battery, and the light will flash codes at me? how long do i have to go from turning the key to on to the codes coming out? seems like I'm gonna have to turn it on and run over to the light. can i use a regular brake light or will that be too big of a draw?
pretty much. I am not sure exactly how long it takes- I invested $200 into a OBD1/2 scanner, so I just plug my scanner in and go. a brake light would probably be to much juice. I'd get a little 12v test light from radio shack and splice on some speaker wire.
ok, i did the Key on engine off, got
13 (O) ISC did not respond properly (extends to touch throttle then retracts for KOEO) - ISC
(R) Idle Speed Control motor or Air Bypass not controlling idle properly (generally idle too high)
(M) ISC sticking, open ITS circuit or TP sticking
and the 31 code, because my air pump isnt on.
for key on engine running, i got,
2?
41, lean( wich is wierd, it guzzles gas, and if it was lean it would use less gas, no?)
31
34( EGR)
76 Vane Air Flow (VAF) did not respond to "goose" test - VAF 31 again
btw, after the test when i touched the gas petal, it would rev up very nicely, when before it would have a studder to it.
If you can help me inturpert these codes better ,I'd appreciate it.
how am i supposed to work the controls and be outisde the truck and count the litttle flashes at the same time.. i'm not super man! i guessi ill have to rig up some longer wires.
DOhhhh I dont know why I didnt think of this, Its guzzing gas, and it shot me with a lean code! O2 sensor!!! Im prety sure that it is on my passenger side manifold, as there is a thing with a wire pokin out of there.
try heating the manifold with a mapp gas torch for a while. also, if it isn't in a really bad spot, you could run your truck to get it hot, and then heat the manifold and it might come out easier.
