Lower Ball joint replacment help
I need to replace the right side lower ball joint on my 98 B4000 2 wheel drive truck. I do a lot of my own work on the truck but have never done a ball joint. Can someone tell me where I can find some step by step instructions on how to do this job? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I read over the thread and have a couple questions before I attempt to do this job. Do I need any special tools besides the press and the removal tool? I have the normal automotive tools. Also, I know I have to remove the cotter pin and bolt from the bottom ball joint but do I need to loosen up the top one? I only plan to replace the bottom ball joint.

you have to take the top one out to get at the bottom. On my 83 ranger I used a 3/4 drive socket to pound it in...didn't have a press..make sure that the socket is close to the same size as the ball joint....I think it was 1 and5/16 inch socket that worked. If you can freeze your ball joint just before install will help a little. Remember if you ding the threads get a die to chase it or you will never get that nut on.....good luck.....
