Aerostar...Windstar...HALP!

I didn't see a Windstar forum so I hope I'm in the right place.

My folks have a 95 Windstar GL with a 3.8L 6 cylinder. Now they are having problems with rough idling when in gear, (auto tranny), so I am putting some of that towards the IAC and will be replacing that later today. Now on top of the manifold, there is a small rubber "L" shaped boot right next to the IAC that is a vacuum line. The boot is split and is sucking air like mad. I am going to replace that as well but the prob I am having is identifying that item. What is that vacuum line for and when I go to the parts store, what do I ask for? The guys there aren't always savvy to the shadetree mechanics. All I can think of is rubber "L" shaped vacuum boot thingy. Pretty scientific huh?
Thanks guys!

There is no Windstar forum available. You might save yourself a trip and a few dollars by first taping the split hose to see if that solves the rough idle problem. Vacuum leaks do cause those kinds of problems. If the idle smoothes out then all you need to pick up at the parts store is a few plastic tubing connectors and a suitable length of vacuum tubing. (Tubing is measured by the inside diameter (ID) rather than the outside dimensions. Take a section with you to get the proper size.)
Good luck!

Is that L shaped thingy just a 90-degree rubber piece that joins 2 plastic vaccum lines together? If that's the case, they are sold in the autopart stores by the tons. If you can't find one, just replace it with a rubber vaccum line of the correct diameter, but make it long with a decently large curvature so that it doesn't get pinched.

Also, it might help if you'll post a picture just so we know what we're looking at. To quote Jefferson Darcy in "Married with Children" "We don't have any L left, but we got lots of sevens"

id say take the split part off and take it with you to the parts store. tell em what it came off of and where, they might be able to track it down, or even by the numbers that may be on the split part somewhere.

i have a winny and an aero, cant find any winny boards as good as this aero board. im bummed!

OK....Had to cut the old boot off since it seemed to be intimately attached to the vacuum line but I took it down to the local parts store...they had nothing. Then the clerk looked at it again and sold me a $5 coil wire. The "L" boot end was almost identical to what I was needing. Lo and behold...it works. After cleaning the IAC, the van nows idles smooth, holds the rpms better when going in and out of gear and while sitting a the light. It no longers stumbles while sitting there.

Thanks for the help guys!
