I have just completed my 351w build and am mocking up the accessories before dropping in the motor. I think I have everything set except for the alternator mounting. I have the original brackets, however, they are for use with the A/C compressor which I am not using. Anyone know the best way to set up the alternator on a 78 351W without A/C? I am only using the crank, water pump, alternator and power steering pulleys. Thanks for the help! Any pictures would be expecially helpful if you have a similar configuration. AuXPOWER at aol.com
I am only running a belt between the crank pulley, water pump and alternator. There will be a second belt from the crank to the power steering. I think that is how they were set up in the late 70s with no A/C. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the replies and any help and pictures!
My engine is completed right now with a regular rotation water pump. I don't want to buy another pump so I can buy more pulleys and brackets to run a serpentine setup. I just need to locate brackets that will allow me to run this thing the way it would have with no A/C. Thanks for the replies.
I was under the impression that the serpentine belt drove the water pump the other way. Can you take a good picture of the belts and brackets so I can see how its setup. I think one of the problems is the bosses on my water pump are not uite standard so the hardware and brackets don't fit as they did with the oem stuff. Thanks for the replies!
on my engine it had a belt from the crank to the alt, and a one that ran crank, waterpump, ps pump. sorry no pics, and I don't have that truck anymore.
