Help me decide!!!!!!!!!!
O.K 1986 f150 here are the Mods
302 stock block .40 over
edelbrock heads 6037-9
wolverine cam rv type 194-204 @50 .424 .448 flat tappet
msd 6a
dynomax long tubes 1.5 2.5
mass air conversion
24 psi injectors 75 mm pro m
4.10 gears
32" bfgs
Best time so far 15.5 86.39 mph 2.2 60ft "tires slow me down"
I have an explorer intake that i will installing this weekend and i think my block is a roller block, if so i have a stock HO cam at my disposal for free and from what i have read its not that bad of grind I know i would get more performance from a performance one like comp but its 300.00 vs 0.
DO you guys think there would be an improvement going from the rv cam to the stock HO cam? flat vs roller? I was thinking of useing 1.7 rocker arms to increase the lift? my truck runs out of steam at 4700 rpm. the other reason i want to go with this cam is the ecu to tuned to this one so i should not have any driveabillity issues

Many GEN 1 L owners swap out the flat tappet in place of a 5.0 roller. Most all of them have said that it's a good cam and seems to keep pulling where the Lightning cam falls off. There are several different grinds though, and I can't remember which Mustang cam is the most aggressive. The rocker arms will also help, but you'll probably lose a little down low with that cam and 1.7's.

a comp cam wont run you that much. call them up and get some #'s. changing tire size back down or gearing to 4.56 will help alot more. the explorer intake isnt that big of a gain, your best to locate an edelbrock upper/lower or the real gt40 upper/lower.
also i suspect this being a 4wd if so your front end is draging your numbers because of the extra weight.
