429 thunderjet ?
How do I make sure that the 429 really is a thunderjet inside my truck. Is there a way to tell by looking at a specific part or do I have to run the numbers on the block and where do I do this if so?
Thunderjet
LBF, does it matter ? The thunderjet, to the best of my memory, was what ford called the 429-4V. The one I had came from a '71 LTD. As I recall, it had small chamber, small port and small valve heads. The block was a normal 2 bolt main, but they are still plenty sturdy, and the big port heads- the ones that came on some PI engines and CJs, super CJs,- are too big to be happy on a truck engine anyhow. The 429 has Nothing to do with a 73-79 truck
details:
Casting Numbers are for example : C9VE-A > C9VE-B
which is either a 429 or 460 .
The difference is determined by the stroke which will need to be measured.
