Diesel Prices
How far have you gotten?
I've been looking into it and am starting to design my systems to compare that to purchasing a system from a vendor. I figure to save about $3000 per year.
I want to try to use the equipment from the front tank and make a 55 gal. fuel tank to replace the front tank on my 96 F350.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Collect used VO from local restaurants (Chinese is cleanest)
Allow to settle in drums in garage
Filter and put in special fuel tank in truck
Mods required:
Install heated fuel tank
plumb split from collant to heat exchanger in tank
special heated fuel line(using coolant)
plumb relays and valve to switch from tank(diesel) to tank(vo)
You run 5 minutes on the diesel to heat the coolant and oil. Then switch to VO and ride for free. Switch back to diesel a few minutes before shutting down so you are ready to start again in diesel. Some guys can start on VO in the summer.
There is more to it than that but that is the basics. There are kits available online or there are a couple of guys on this site that have done the deed with some nice improvements.
Sorry to have highjacked this thread but now that we've established we are getting clobbered we can work toward solving the problem.
There are opinions about engine life, fuel lubricity and wrrenties. I'll leave that to others to discuss. My truck is out of warrenty and I can buy a new engine every 2 years with the money I'll save. So let's have some fun with a new project.
I've got 2 solenoid valves for switching from wvo to diesel, we've got some oil waiting to be prefiltered. Should have a tank by this weekend or next. There are 2 of us converting a 97 F250 and an F350. We are currently working on designing and building a heater just in front of the fuel filter. We've got a temp guage to keep track of the fuel temp. We have 1 heater built but after it was finished I thought it was too small and after reading the tread on how much fuel our fuel pumps are pumping we both decided it wasn't big enough. We're still in the early stages of getting this thing done. Keep me posted on how your doing.

around Montreal PQ, Cdn Diesel is around 0.86 cents a liter (there is almost 4 liters in an american gallon).
So this is why I like to travel "the other side of the border" :-)
The best deals I could find when travelling are:

Snippit:
Saudi Arabia's Oil Minister Ali Naimi said "Despite our best efforts, Saudi Arabia and OPEC have had little ability to curb the rapid rise in prices". Prices are more than 65% higher than at the start of 2004 and there are rising concerns that they are now a drag on economies worldwide.
In his speech, Naimi said the burgeoning influence on world oil prices from a new breed of investors had weakened the muscle of OPEC. "The pension funds buy and hold positions, which creates a long market," he said, citing some $12 billion-worth of money that tracked oil within the Goldman Sachs Commodity Index last year.
"Even banks are jumping on the bandwagon," he said, adding: "Some analysts expect that oil could soon be traded as an exchange-traded fund, meaning that it could be offered almost like a stock." This would attract even more investors, he said.
In short: "There is a widespread feeling in the industry that this activity will continue to push the market higher despite OPEC and Saudi Arabia's strong efforts to stabilize prices."
