I have a 2005 F250 XLT 4x2, without the upfitter switches. I would like to add a couple of switches, but I want to keep the little cubbyhole where the upfitters would go. Since I don't have the 4 WD selector switch, there is a blank panel that would be perfect for my use. So, how do I get this out? I don't really want to yank the whole dash off. Also, when I look up under the dash, it seems that there are some wires on the back of this panel. Is that just the unused 4WD switch harness?
Remove the cubbyhole by gently prying on it in the middle of the top and bottom of it.
Be careful not to damage the finish on the dash.
After the cubbyhole is out you can reach in behind and push the blank panel out. It has some tab thingies (technical term) that hold it in. You'll have to squeeze those a bit while you push it out.
Racer made that sound easy. When I added my upfitter switches that was the hardest part, removing the little cubby hole thing. Ends up the cubby hole was clipped behind the tow commander. Boy was that a pain to get out. I ended up putting a little ding mark on the plastic for the tow commander. I have to point it out for anyone to see, very small ding.
I found two little tabs in the top of the cubbyhole, and that loosens gets things started, but the cubby hole is attached to the brake controller. Any ideas on how to unattach them?
That was my problem. I ended up just working them over as best I could and broke them off the cubby. It was trash anyways since I was putting in the upfitters.
I haven't had a TBC out yet but the manual says that there is a tab on the top of it. You have to remove the whole "instrument panel center finish panel" and then you can press the tab to remove the TBC and cubbyhole.
Is the instrument panel center finish panel the one with the driver's glove box and the mystery hook? I see that there are three bolts on the bottom of this. If I remove the three bolts, will the panel come out, or are there hidden fasteners to deal with?
Yes that's the one but to get it out you also have to remove the "instrument panel cluster finish panel" which is the big one that goes from the headlight switch to the radio etc. It just pulls off.
