That is exactly my point. Don't let the price of diesel or the predictions upset you. Nothing is definite except the fact that something is going to change. If oil climbs to $100 a barrel, the world's economies will come to a grinding halt and the price of fuel will be the least of your worries.
I heat my house with wood which I get for free. Now I just need to find a way to run the truck on the same fuel!
I found that our local walmart just started carrying mobil 1 truck and suv for 19.93 a gallon and rotella T full synthetic for 13.50 a gallon. Are those good prices? How is the rotella?
John, the Rotella Syn has been great, and the Rotella Syn price is consistent. I have not seen the Mobil1 Truck & SUV in anything but quarts yet - by chance was the stuff on the shelf Mobil's 5-quart packaging, or just a straight gallon? As my truck now takes 15 quarts with the new Oilguard by-pass, that would work out perfect if so - only $6 more than buying 4 gallons of Rotella Syn.
What is really amazing is that there are some oil refineries that can buy and refine the very much less expensive "sour oil" (instead of light sweet crude) that come from other parts of the world other than the Middle East or North Atlantic. I guess they do buy it, refine it and charge us the same prices as the good stuff? Whatever happened to the bargain fuel sellers? Did they all become victims of all the MERGERS?
Oh well, like they say it's only an extra $3000 per year per 20,000 miles on average.
Maybe BIO-diesel will become more in play?
I still drive my truck 500-700 miles a week no matter what the price
I would love to run 100% bio, just think, leaving a french fry smoke trail wherever you go You hear that 100% is ok from some and ford says no so I wonder who is correct?
I can see it now, hundreds of back yard bio refineries and govt agents running around like in the days of stills and bootleggers.
Hmmm, maybe it is time to start stocking up on Mason jars?????
My cost per mile for diesel fuel only was: 2003-12,800 miles-$.0903; 2004-21,700 miles $.0985; 2005-6,500miles-$.0998. So it's costing me about $65 more to drive the 6.500 miles in '05 than it would have in '03 and and about $8.50 more in '05 than in '04. The '03 costs and 11 months of '04 were with a '95 PSD. The last month of '04 was with a '05 PSD. I guess I'll just have to drink a little less beer.
Filled my tank today, $96 ($2.50gal). Also verified WalMart no longer carries Motorcraft products. My truck is used strictly for personal transportation, take the cost of the truck, insurance, FUEL,and maintainance, it would be cheaper to drive a Porsche Carrera. It was sweet while it lasted, but it's KILLIN me.
I with you.
I just sold my 2003 Cobra today.
All things considered, I will save over $700 a month by selling the car, plus tires. (I go through a set of fronts once a year and rears every 2-3 months).
315/35/17's every couple months gets expensive!
I am nearly 10 G's right side up , so I can still buy something diecent for a year or so and if fuel prices stabilize I'll buy the new 07 cobra.
Between now and then, I'll tie the money up in property.
No worries, you'll get another one when it's more practical....
