add-on oil filter ?'s

I just got my second 6.9 home (86 f250 4x2 6.9?4pdw/granny 130k).someone has added a second oil filter mounted on the pass fenderwell. They have the pressure line coming from the same port the oil pressure sensor is at,and then the return empties into the oil fill tube. has anyone seen a setup like this? seems like it would just bleed off oil pressure from the top end of the engine? and it does seem to make more noise than my other 86 6.9.the oil pressure guage reads low and i would bet that is because they used the same port to draw of the oil. Any opinions.

That would be a bypass oil filter. If it was designed as such, it should have a metered orfice in the pressure line somewhere so it won't bleed off your oil pressure. If that was my truck I'd remove it and just run a P/stroke filter.

I have installed an aux filter in my new truck. It is a power stroke and the feed line is right off the oil filter housing and the return is very near there. I have not noticed any fluctuation in the oil pressure. Malcolm has a great idea by using the stroke filter. And be sure to use a good filter ... dont forget the commercial...I'll get ya now or get ya in the wallet later. Enjoy the scooter.
bill .... out!
