Ok, well im looking to get a new truck pretty soon, right now I have a 2001 F350 PSD, and I have always been a ford fan, but ive been looking a little at the dodge CTD a little bit, too. This will be mostly a play truck, my friends all have diesels and we mod them out, race each other, etc. It's going to be a daily driver for me to go to work, which is 15 miles on the highway. I hardly ever pull a trailer over 5000 lbs, maybe one with a fourwheeler or motorcycle on it. Pretty much just a play truck. Any suggestions on which one might be better for me?
I have test drove the 6.0 and I liked it, but have yet to drive a dodge CTD
if you want one to go fast, get the 6.0. it'll whoop the cummins in a race. and it should tow your 5000 lb. trailer and four wheelers with no problem. not that the cummins wouldn't either, but the 6.0 will be faster, and the 6.0 is in a ford, not a dodge.
Duramaximizer, why interject GM into this when the guy is asking about Ford or Dodge. Please try to stay on topic.
adamshee, how far do you plan to push the mods? If you are going to go crazy the Dodge maybe the better solution, it is more mod friendly. My suggestion is get the Ford but then again I will not be modding it for some time.
Adamshee, you should wait a year,I hearld that in 06 Ford is going to have the cummins available for the F series. They are suppose to be running them up in Canada this year.Don't know this for 100% fact, but heard this from a fellow employee at work.
weel i had a ford now i have a dodge and i love the cummins . it has better performance than my stock 7.3 had and gets better fuel mileage too. and by the way i have out pulled a 6.0 with it also .
Just stick with Ford and forget about it. The cummins is alright. But the truck is lacking big time. Its not even close to Fords quality. Going from a Ford to a Dodge is going backwards IMO. Two things would have to happen for me to buy a Dodge. Id have to have had a stroke or Alzheimers is setting in. That being said you wont ever see me in a Dodge. I feel sorry for the Dodge people off the world. Why would anybody drive such a truck. Dodge avoid if all possible. Stay away. In time your dash will literally fall apart. Ive seen that on many Dodge trucks and the front ends dont hold up worth a you know what. An auto trannies. I hope the new ones are better then the old style. Every 30,000 miles = new tranny. Take the body off a Dodge and you wont be buying one any time soon. Terrible build quality. Sorry for the rant here.
and by the way i have out pulled a 6.0 with it also .
Come on that is such a vague statement. In every pulling test I've read (Truck Trend, Truckin', and that new All Diesel mag) The 6.0 smacks on the Cummins. Facts please.
We have already talked about that.
I PMed him adamshee and he said the only reason that he wasn't getting a GM was because they were notoriously bad offroaders and they had hardly any groundclearance. There for I told him about IFS having more front clearance than the SFA. I thought rather than argue this I could just send him to that forum because i think we throughly examined the SFA vs. IFS arguement.
My screen name might have had something to do with it. lol
Couple of things there.
1. The GM may have higher ground clearance from the lowest point on the vehicle, but think about that for a second.
The lowest point on a SD is the Pumpkins.
Which don't matter, as they follow the wheels, as the wheels go up, so do the pumpkins.
2. Ever tried lifting a GM to ridiculous heights lately???
IFS has its benefits (better ride and handling) but it creates far worse axle articulation, and makes it a very $$$ process to lift it.
Also far more critically, if I remember correctly the stock ramp over, approach and departure angles in the SD are far more superior to that of a GM.
I couldn't find GM's figures, as it appears they don't pulish them - which is rather ominous isn't it!!!
Well it looks like im sticlin with the 6.0, im not going crazy with mods, like no propane, just exhaust, intake, and computer mods, enough to beat my friends cummins pretty much (98 cummins with programmer)
This was already posted in the other forum which is why I told him to look there. GM also says for higher approach angles to take off the front plastic and fog lights.
The arms out by the tires are not likely to catch on something as that big pumkin.
I think you too need to go back and read what was posted to keep from repeating this.
