Sell the '96 and buy a motorcycle to get back and forth to school, those things could get anywhere from 50 - 60 miles to the gallon...and if you think about it, lets say you get a harley that get 50 miles to the gallon with a 2 gallon gas tank...you fill the tank up for about 5 bucks and thats good for about 100 miles...but thats just me, i dont know if your willing to ride a motorcycle or not

Now thats a good idea, buy a bike, preferably a small jap bike, there cheaper then the harleys and get 60-75mpg. My Yamaha Dual Purpose gets 70-75mpg and is fast in traffic, in fact it is the perfect city bike, you can accerlate quciker then anyone else and manuevere anywhere you want. I wouldnt buy a harley though, your talkin $25,000 at least and the monthly payment will far exceed any gas savings from it. In fact, thats what you should do, sell the 96, and get a small bike, then when you have the funds, fix up the 71 and just drive it every saturday for burning up the tires.

ya a dual purpose would probably suit your needs, theyre great on gas and got the power when you need it, i rode my friends Yamaha XT225 and thats a great bike, cheap too...you could pick up a brand new one for about $4500 - $5000 and a nice used one even cheaper

That would depend on whether he wants to live to have kids of his own, or keep all of his limbs intact until old age,

In my 38 years of owning vehicles and I have kept one car for 16 years I truly believe a 34 year old vehicle will never make a reliable daily driver. Many parts in a vehicle are simply made to last so many years and that is a marketing fact. A 34 year old vehicle is a toy to store dry and take out on sunny days. I bought a 75 Ford F250 390 brand new and had 5 good years with it. Would I want it today? NO. I want a vehicle with a few safety features like headrests , shoulder straps, air bags, and a motor that doesn't pollute the air we all have to breathe. Take care, Wrench.

Sell the 96, park the 71 and buy a cheap car that gets great mileage.

The 71 will make a fine daily driver as far as relaibitly goes, youd be supriesed how relaible they are. Id go as far as saying they are more realible then a new one. My 66 is a daily driver, works GREAT. And its far more realible then my parents 2002 Powerstroke Diesel engine, my engine has never died, the PSD has died many times and left us stranded. Whats wrong with this picture? My 66 has not died once.

I would go with the 71. The value increases while the 96 decreases. Many more factors to concider but just my 1st thought

I'm heavily biased, as I wasn't around in 71 to enjoy and experience the 71's, and I own a 96 of which I absolutely love to death.
