'05 block heater cable install question

I had time today and was going to install a few things I bought for my truck today. One being the cable for the engin block heater. I found where it plubs in but for the life of me I can not figure out how to run the cable. From reading posts I assume the plug ends up on the pass. side of the truck, u under the bumper. There is a huge space there, kind of in front of the tire, that looks like is a good spot.

The cable itself has those little push pins and a section is wrapped in a straight tube. I am very lost on running this thing. I *think* it needs to run from the block up and across the top of the motor on the outside of the batt then back down to the inside of the fender. Anyonbe got a pic or words of wisdom where I should run this thing?

So did yours show the block heater option on your window sticker and they don't give you the plug in? I made sure I found one with that option but I haven't even looked yet.... which I'm going to go do right now...

Nah, it was not a window sticker option. But since all '05 psd's have the block heater I figured why not drop the $30 and just install the cable? I have family in the north east and *may* drive up there in the dead of winter someday. If I don't what is the harmn of having the cable there?

Anyways, no clue of how to run it. May need to look for a local truck that has one and go take a peek. Doubt any will have them in the DFW area though.

When posting a reply that is directly above … THERE IS NO NEED TO USE THE QUOTE FUNCTION....lets say we get 2500 posts a week, just
to pick a number, and only 50 percent used the quote function…well, you can imagine how many extra pages are used, and not needed…
Thanks Admin Tim here

Generally it runs along the frame rail to the front tow hook area. The dealer put in mine, had to drill the holes for the push clips. Others here have zip tied to lines that already run the frame rail but in either case they end up with the plug just below the pass tow hook.

Doohhhh... busted by the wasting space police Good point.

True you might not find too many in the DFW area, I get down there put not with the PSD.

Of course I didn't get a chance to look, forgot I had dropped it off to get the remote start put in, didn't get it back until after it was dark.

I am wondering, when the dealer installed it for you where did the long solid chunk of the cable go? You can see the straight section in the pic below.

I went back to the Ford Dealer and my salesman got mine installed.

I would have not looked for the cable if not for this post!

Thanks all!

Your dealer can supply a diagram showing how to install the cord. I hate to admit it because you would think it a simple deal but I needed the diagram!

Kurt, you per-chance got a scan/jpeg of that diagram? I really don't want to drive back down to Ford just to look like a doofus asking "how do I route this cable?"

I am told the factory installed location is way up under the bumper on the pass side. Crawl under the truck and look in the big cavity in front of the pass tire. Should be there.

Antacus - my dealer faxed me the diagram and I think we tossed it after the installation but I will look in my truck which is at home. Sorry I didn't get your request until after I went home yesterday. If you want to send me a PM I will give you his number - they are great people and I'll bet he would do the same for you.
