hello all im new to this site and have serious issues hoping someone can shed some light.just bought new 05 f-350 dually crew cab 2wd.1st off this 6.0 in my truck is a HUGE dissappointment.it is so down on power its pathetic and the only thing my dealers service rep had to say is what do you mean this truck will smoke the tires right off of it.not exactly what i wanted to hear from the service department! truck only has 1000 miles on it and let me tell ya i traded in a 95 with a 460 gas motor with 160,000miles on it that will out tow and pull this new truck any day of the week.is there any help out there or should i just let my dealer keep smokin my tires off?
thanx in advance
Freddie
Welcome to the FTE site jfastfreddie. Sorry to hear about your not wanted situations with your new wheels. I traded a perfectly fine 2002-7.3 F250 in for a 2003-6.0 F250 and I knew better at the time. I
had nothing but trouble with the 2003 until the dealer finally got me a second one. Then I had trouble with the second one at about 35000 miles. The entire time I did all I could to document, document, document every thing the truck did and the way it acted. He then put me into a 2005-6.0 F250 and I have never been more pleased.
I know this doesn't take the problems away from you, but be patient and document, document, document. Good things usually come to those who wait. bigdawgkp
Freddie,
In what area do you believe it is low on power, could you be a little more descriptive? Is it at the low end with a trailer, or mid range going up hills? If we could get some idea of where yours is not providing the power you expect we may be able to help.
Have you driven another brand new one at the dealer for comparison? My dealer took one back at 1000 miles and gave me a new one no problem have you asked?
JFASTFREDDIE, I did the same thing. Went from an 88' slightly built 460 to a new 04' 6.0 and was not impressed when I got it out on the freeway. But as it broke in and 'I got reprogrammed', I'm convinced that the 6.0 does have more torque than the 460. Not quite the pull at higher R's, but more down low. As the new one is breaking in at 10,000 miles, it's power has increased in steps. All turbo charged engines have lag. (some, not lots), Something that those of us that are use to quick breathing small block Fords, and torquey big block gassers take a bit to adjust to.
thanx for the replies.as for where it has a loss of power it is in the midrange trying to take the hills.it is a 6 speed hd manual trans i dropped it in 4th gear and massed it down and it nothing but decelerate all the way and what phases me iis the motor was in its torque range 2000rpm to 2500 rpm.i pull a 48 foot enclosed race car trailer.on the same hill my 460 would take it at 45 mph this new truck 47 mph.needless to say very dissappointing.i expected this truck to just take off and thats exactly what it didnt do.i have driven many diff trucks and none so displeasing as this one.just for comparison we hauled the trailer last year with my uncles 03 dodge cummins and that pulled the trailer with out even breathing this was the reason for my upgrade.after some research between the new dodge and the new ford i opted for the ford because it sounded to me like this was the truck of trucks.already tore the rear gears up at 720 miles.thats getting replaced now,and the truck hasnt been loaded with anything yet, besides the 5 mile haul with the trailer but the rearend was making noise before that trip.i guess im just rapidly becominjg dissappointed.
Wow .. sounds like you have a bad one .. I have 2200 on my PSD and love it ... I haven't had much time to get out and tow any great distance, however so far it is doing great .. running down the freeway at 70-75 I have averaged 18.2-19.5 computed .. not bad !!!
How many miles are on your new 6.0? I also have the 6spd and love it. I don't tow as much weight as you, but since the engine has been breaking in, it really does have more power than my old slightly built 460. Really, initially I didn't think there was a lot of power available but once I started to put miles on it, breaking it in properly, the power emerged.
Sorry to hear about your prob. Cant imagine a 05 6.0 low on power. Coming out a very powerful 03 Cobra I knew I was in a different leauge
in terms of quickness ,but very pleased with my 05s performance.
Hope it all works out.
