Have a 2004 F250 w/30,000 miles. Problem is intermittent and being so, the dealer cannot fix what does not show up on the computer. When the truck is started, it runs but you hear no clatter, if you press the accelerator you get nothing. Eventually it will die. When restarted everything is fine. Happens about every 4-5 weeks. If the dealer would just leave a recorder on the truck for me, I could catch the problem. Any ideas. Starting to really get pissed. Thanks
Disconnect your EGR and see if the problem goes away. Turn off the engine and ignition before disconnecting EGR. If the problem goes away, it is your EGR sticking open. It could also be a problem with wire chafing.
The problem is so random. Do I need to wait till it happens before i try this? I guess the only way i will know if it is fixed is if it never happens again. Or can i disconnect it anytime w/engine & ignition off and reconnect it. They have already changed out some wiring harness. The dealer has put 473 miles on my truck the past 2 weeks trying to duplicate this problem with no success. So i am back to square one. Thanks
Leave it disconnected until you determine that the problem is gone away or not. After that, it is your call. You should make a trip to to service department anyway.
