Explorer air ride shocks
I am working on a 97 Explorer Eddie Bauer AWD 5.0 with air ride suspension. One rear shock is blown. None available from salvage. The Ford dealer parts only have a shock without the electrical connection for the reg/firm ride. They say I need to replace all the shocks with ones that don't have the electrical connection, which will disable the electrical air ride portion(I guess this means the reg/firm ride). Monroe confirms this.
Does anyone know if I can just change the rear shocks and leave the fronts original? And if this is advisable? No explanation from Ford, anyone know why the electric shock is not available?
Thanks,
