Does anyone have any idea on the life of a set of injectors? My 94 4.0 is running good but with the increased cost of gas and running 150 R/T daily, just wonderin if I should change to new injectors? Truck is 5sp, SC, 2wd. 171,000 miles.
Presently getting right at 20 mpg, maybe 20.5 since I slowed down to under 70MPH to go to work and back.
Not running bad but just curious.
Your thoughts, these things are listed at $60 new at checkers, $35 for rebuilts. Plus there is a place locally that will R&R them about $15 each!
Injectors don't wear out, but they do get dirty. The best way to clean them is to disassemble them and ultrasound them. A good shop will replace all the seals etc, flow test them, and check the spray pattern. Some will even match them into sets, but if they are with in 1% they should be fine. 12-15 bucks sounds about right for a good shop to do them IF they do the above. If they are really dirty you can get away with "cleaners in the tank", but to get them back to new they have to come out. Getting your money back in increased mileage depends on how dirty they are and how much you drive. It will take time and a lot of miles to get you investment back.

I can't give you actual numbers Hank, but I can state that cleaning the injectors and replacing the two upstream 02 sensors on my 4.0L has definitely resulted in a positive, tangible difference in gas mileage. And seeing as I'm not really a hawkeye when it comes to mpg anyway (I always forget to keep track of things ), for me to notice the improvement by simply peering at the gas gauge says something.
