I take care of carbon build up by using SeaFoam, you can get it at some auto parts stores, but not all. You pull the brake booster vac line, put it in a cup with 1/3 rd of the SeaFoam in it while the engine is running idle and hot, quickly shut it off after it's sucked in, let sit 15 minutes, start it back up and go for a drive. You can use more if you like, it's just not neccessary. Beware, it'll smoke like mad because it's breaking down build up and burning it out, the smoke will stop after a few minutes. I use the stuff on our car once or twice a year, bad valve seals leave build up, I like to flush it out before taking it in to get emission tested, hasn't failed yet.
